MOL AccessPortal Ties Up With 7-Eleven To Market Malaysia’s First 24-hour Online Cash Payment System

Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA | Friday, 7 November 2003 – MOL AccessPortal Berhad, enroute to listing on KLSE’s MESDAQ market next month has launched Malaysia’s 1st 24 hour cash online payment service in collaboration with 7-Eleven franchisor, Convenience Shopping Sdn. Bhd. The strategic collaboration aims to capitalise on opportunities in the relatively untapped Malaysian e-commerce industry through the sale of MOLePoints throughout 7-Eleven outlets nationwide.

MOLePoints is an innovative online cash payment system which enables consumers to purchase products, access content and utilise e-services without using a credit card or charge card. Consumers are presently able to purchase MOLePoints at selected cybercafes and video outlets or online via RHBBank.Com. The introduction of 7-Eleven will increase the number of physical outlets selling the product to a total of 816 outlets. 7-Eleven Malaysia is the first country in South East Asia to promote an e-payment service of this kind.

Speaking at a signing ceremony in Kuala Lumpur today, MOL AccessPortal chief executive officer, Mr. Ganesh Kumar Bangah, said that the availability of MOLePoints in 7-Eleven would give consumers a convenient and easily accessible way for them to perform e-commerce transactions.

Describing the portal collaboration agreement as another “feather in the cap”, Mr Quah Jin Ho, general manager of Convenience Shopping Sdn Bhd, said it was a “two-way, win-win” situation for both parties to capitalise on a wider market outreach without the need to invest in additional infrastructure.

He said the introduction of MOLePoints Prepaid would enable 7-Eleven to offer its customers a huge suite of products and e-services without having to spare shelf space. “www.mol.com can attract the stores’ customers to the service by taking previously offline customers online and vice-versa to increase the flow of online customers to our outlets,” Quah added.

Consumers can conduct online transactions for a wide range of online products and e-services offered at www.mol.com. These include mobile phone and Internet prepaid reloads, massively multiplayer online games, domains, e-courier, e-learning, e-ticketing for express bus services, hotel bookings and many more.

At 7-Eleven outlets, customers can purchase MOLePoints Prepaid worth RM30-RM50 and will be issued with prepaid coupons instantly printed from the e-pay machines. The customer will then reload the MOLePoints Prepaid into their accounts through www.mol.com, by keying in their username and password, followed by the pin and serial number of the prepaid coupon.
