28 January, 2003 Kuala Lumpur – MOL AccessPortal Berhad has announced 7th February 2003 as the South East Asian commercial launch date for Helbreath, a massive multiplayer online game (MMOG) developed by Siementech Co., Ltd, hosted on computer servers in Korea and targeted at games enthusiasts around the world.
It was announced at a pre-event launch held at CyberTime Internet Cafe in Taman Maluri. VIPs for the event are Ganesh Kumar Bangah- CEO of MOL AccessPortal Berhad, Young-Suk Choi-CEO of Siementech Co.,Ltd., Kenneth Chang, Executive Director of MOL.com Berhad, Zaini Noordin, Marketing Director for MOL AccessPortal Berhad and Mr. S. K Lee, Chairman of CyberTime Internet Cafe.
Siementech Ltd, a Korean based specialist game developer for online game appointed MOL AccessPortal Berhad, operating under a revenue sharing agreement, to undertake distributorship responsibilities that include: marketing activities; player registration; subscription management and payments; customer service; and monitoring of game quality.
The success of online games in Korea which has a high broadband penetration rate, indicates that the rollout of broadband will lead to increasing demands for more sophisticated content such as games and that’s where MOL AccessPortal expects to make an impact in the market with games like Helbreath.
MOL AccessPortal’s present services for online games include MOLePoints, a micro payment system that enables users to pay cash at physical outlets for online transaction and MOLCybercafes, an affiliation program for CyberCafes that has 12,088 online CyberCafe registrations from 193 countries with more than 4,500 of them coming from Malaysia.
These two systems will be abided for the commercial launch, giving users the opportunity to reload their MOLePoints account at MOLePoints Centers and to subscribe monthly to Helbreath. MOL AccessPortal will be charging RM38 (USD10) for a 1-month unlimited game access to its members.
There will be no game cards produced as seen by many other online games distributed in Malaysia. The only means of subscribing to Helbreath will be via its MOLePoints Centers, which are CyberCafes and registered companies with Internet connection. Currently, there are more than 330 MOLePoints Centers that are active in Malaysia.
“We see an opportunity to duplicate the success of online games in Korea locally. MOLCyberCafes and MOLePoints will serve as the distribution and payment channels for Helbreath. These assets will help in the success of Helbreath in Malaysia. Helbreath as a product will also further grow the popularity of MOLePoints and MOLCybercafes within Malaysia,” said Ganesh Kumar Bangah, CEO for MOL AccessPortal.

A key advantage for online games is that piracy is much more difficult than conventional PC or console-based games. Helbreath is hosted via the Internet and each user’s account is password protected. Players are allocated a digital key with a personal code so that usage can be closely tracked, allowing Siementech to monitor the security levels and playing quality of Helbreath.
